STEP 8 - PHOTOSENSITIVITY DANGERS

broken image

Photosensitization is the process in which ultraviolet (UV) radiation combines with a particular substance and causes chemical or biological changes.

CITRUS Essential Oils contain a photosensitive compound called furocoumarins. It is important to avoid exposure to sunlight, sunlamps, or other sources of UV light for up to 12 hours after TOPICAL application of these oils.

Essential Oils with PHOTOSENSITIVITY include:

  • MASSAGE BLEND

  • BERGAMOT

  • RESPIRATORY BLEND

  • INVIGORATING BLEND

  • CUMIN

  • JOYFUL BLEND

  • GRAPEFRUIT

  • FOCUS BLEND

  • LEMON, LIME

  • KUMQUAT

  • PROTECTIVE BLEND

  • CLEANSING BLEND

  • METABOLIC BLEND

  • TANGERINE

  • WILD ORANGE

  • DETOXIFICATION BLEND

  • UPLIFTING BLEND

  • ENCOURAGING BLEND

  • RENEWING BLEND

Mature skin is often thinner and more fragile, so it is important to remember that if these are oils that you would like to use on a day where you will be in sunlight, make sure to apply in areas where the skin is not exposed to the sun.

Mature skin can burn or blister easily when these oils and the sun mix. As an alternative, use other oils instead and enjoy the CITRUS oils on days you plan to be indoors.
